It was one of those days

and I don't mean that in a bad way. It was one of those days I don't want to forget. We had our chores done by 8:00am so the rest of the morning was spent fluffing a Christmas tree for the living room, creating paper chains, watching Sam's birthday DVD from when he was 2 and 3, playing battleship, gazing at a napping Julia, making cookies and letting Julia help despite the extra clean up that involves, playing Risk, playing monopoly, eating cookies fresh from the oven, unwrapping Christmas books, listening to Sam read two beginner books as well as a few pages in his first attempt at a chapter book, dancing to Christmas music, teaching Julia how to sew, tearing up at seeing the joy on her face when she could maneuver the needle all on her own, teaching Julia how to sew sequins onto an ornament she designed, wearing Elsa in the Sleepy Wrap, being thanked by PapaBear for making the house look nice, listening to Elsa giggle because of her brother's antics, watching Daddy & the big kids have a tackle fight before bed, doing our "thankfuls" with Sam, Sam telling me he said a prayer before he settled down for our sleepover, hearing Elsa sigh in her sleep,

It was a day that didn't involve a single trip to town, a day where I didn't spend a penny, and a day that didn't require stepping foot outside other than to open the gate to the park. As I prepared dinner this evening I pondered why a simple day at home put me more in Christmas Spirit than a day of shopping for gifts, visiting the Big Guy, or making Christmas crafts/Christmas gifts. I'm still mulling it over as I write this post. Obviously not being in a hurry to get somewhere on time makes a big difference in my stress level. I think another part of it is that last year we barely had a Christmas. It wasn't until the week before Christmas that I was able to be downstairs for any length of time.  Whatever the reason, I want to bottle this feeling up!

How was your day?

  3. I haven't been able to read blogs for a couple of weeks, but am so glad to see you are all doing well. I loved the recent pics of Elsa, she is so cute. your Santa pictures are really good too. I have all kinds of pictures but just haven't been uploading them. I am tired so much of the time, plus my parents are here so I don't spend much time online.
Can't wait to read more of your family holiday adventures!

"How can I help?"

So many have asked how they can help MckMama and her family during this difficult time and so I've set up a Care Calendar to help coordinate meals for the family. MckMama is coordinating childcare on her end, but you can contact me for the rest. Please leave me a comment in this message and I will contact you with more information on the Care Calendar as soon as I am able. Please be sure I can get in touch with you through your blog and/or an email address. Thank you for covering my dear friend and her family with prayers!

Shabby Apple Giveaway!

Spring is in the air and that means it's time to start thinking about changing over our closets from Winter to Spring. I don't know about you, but that also means it's time to look for a few new pieces to bring new life to what I wear year after year. Today I can make that job a little more fun for you because Shabby Apple is sponsoring a giveaway on my blog! Yeah!!!! I had so much fun looking through their collection of women's dresses and don't even get me started on their adorable line of little girl's dresses ! It's a whole new ballgame for me now that I'm going to have TWO girls to dress. In the end I decided to pick this beauty called Azure Coast to giveaway to one lucky reader because us mom's are always buying things for our kids before ourselves. I just might have to pick up one for myself in time to wear for BabyBear's baptism this summer. It's perfect for nursing moms! Want to win one for yourself? See below , but if you d...

My Birthday Wish

Today is my 33rd birthday. So far I've celebrated by cleaning the kitchen, vacuuming, and washing clothes. My birthday happened to fall on a Monday - the day we set a few hours aside for me to do some of the cleaning that I just don't have time for during the work week. I love it. I get that immediate sense of accomplishment. I see results. I finished a task. Oh how that makes my heart happy!!!!! In my line of work it can be months before I can check a project off my list. All the while it nags at me and weighing me down like a ton of bricks that projects are waiting for me. Don't get me wrong, I love love love my job, but I also love that instant gratification that comes with checking something off my list. So when Mondays roll around I am happy to pick up my dust cloth or a basket of laundry....even on my birthday. I don't have any great birthday reflections for today....maybe another day. Instead I want to share my birthday wish with you dear readers. What I wan...
