It was the first day of school.

"It's the hand that has the freckle on it," I remind my pre-schooler as we got ready for "4 year old school" as he calls it. We had read the The Kissing Hand and a devotional about God being big enough and strong enough to keep us safe when we are scared.

We woke up early, debated about pants vs. shorts, stirred honey, flax, and pro-biotics into our oatmeal, & headed outside to take first day of school pictures.
It seems like only yesterday.

Today he didn't want me to walk him into his school.

I dropped him off at the bottom of the ramp and watched my baby boy walk up to the door and let himself in.

I should have asked him for a Kissing Hand Kiss to help me through the rest of the day.

  1. I remember the first day my oldest didn't want me to walk her in. She wanted me to just drive through the parent drop off line and let her out. I did what she wanted, and cried all the way home. I think that day was harder for me than her first day of school.

  2. I get sad just thinking about September. I can't even imagine her being too big for me.

  7. Oh, my mommy heart knows exactly what you mean. Sometimes it's the smallest thing that reminds you of how fast your little ones turn into big ones.
And I thank God more and more now for the little things that remind me of it so I can breathe it all in now and savor it later.

  12. Oh that is such a hard transition. I totally remember the first time my oldest said, "Mom, is it okay if you don't give me a hug goodbye?" Ugh. Hard transitions, aren't they?
