How to post bigger pictures in Blogger - 8 easy steps

Oh how happy I am that I figured out how to post pictures bigger in blogger without having to use an outside hosting site! And because I wish I could have avoided using trial and error for 3 years to figure it out, I want to share this valuable information with YOU!

This topic is important to me as a photographer and for this reason: Did you know that if you want to create Blurb blog book (or hire me to do it for you) that you will more than double your work if you host pictures outside of your blogging platform or if you use LiveWriter to compose your posts?

So what's the secret that will save you time and a whole lotta hastle?

1) Upload your picture to blogger (chose the large size)
2) click on the 'edit Html' tab (If you can see your photographs that means you are in 'compose' mode - you need to be able to edit the code to increase the size of your images.)

***It should be obvious, but this method only works for the wide column templates....sorry i can't help with other sizes, this is the only way I know that works.***

3) look for the numbers that I highlighted in a portion of the photo code below (Note: much of the code has been deleted, but this should suffice for finding the three numbers you have to change.)

width: 400px; height: 267px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_/S1jC2Y_uI1IVrd_XSdXJSY/s400/_MG_9677PS.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_" border="0" />/a >

4) Subtract the purple number from the red number. 400-267 is 133. (This number can vary depending on the size of your photo. Don't worry if your numbers are different. What's important is that you get the ratio correct.)

width: 400px; height: 267px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_/S1jC2Y_uI1IVrd_XSdXJSY/s400/_MG_9677PS.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_" border="0" />/a >

5) Change both of the 400's to 800's (keep the 'px' and 's' intact)

6) Subtract the result of step #4 from 800 In my case, 800-133 is 667.

7) Replace the purple number with the result from step #6.

8) click on 'compose' and enjoy your bigger and better pictures!

Please let me know if this works for you - This is the only blog that I've tried it on and I'd love to know if you find it successful as well! If you know an alternative way to post larger pictures feel free to leave the instructions in the comment section. Consider it your good deed for the day :)

  1. Hey Carrie,

All I have to do in blogger is hit large, xl or small or smallest and it will automatically change my picture size.

No messing with my html code.

  3. the picture is adorable! and I love it big! :) I enjoy playing with the html. I hadn't tried that trick yet. :) thanks for the info!

  4. Carrie-- great idea! I think that if you just multiply each of you numbers by the same amount you'll keep your proportions intact (and it's easier).

In your example you'd go from 400 by 267 to 800 by 534. Does that make sense?

  12. Great instructions,, it worked... only problem is my main blog area is not wide enough, so the pictures overlap the side bar. How did you make your main area so wide?? I'm having trouble figuring out the html for this. THanks!

  14. Wow, I've been searching for an understandable explanation on how to do this for months!!! Thank you SO much! I also had the old blogger template, so I switched mine to the new one so my area could be wide enough. My picture is perfect and not blurry because my camera has 10 pixels.

"How can I help?"

So many have asked how they can help MckMama and her family during this difficult time and so I've set up a Care Calendar to help coordinate meals for the family. MckMama is coordinating childcare on her end, but you can contact me for the rest. Please leave me a comment in this message and I will contact you with more information on the Care Calendar as soon as I am able. Please be sure I can get in touch with you through your blog and/or an email address. Thank you for covering my dear friend and her family with prayers!

Elsa's Birth Story

The morning of July 1st started out like all the other mornings this summer. The kids let me sleep until 7:30 and then came in to wake me up. We ate breakfast and I started picking up around the house. We had spent the previous day at the town pool and because the heat index was going to be just as high again we made plans to go to our beach. The kids really wanted to practice their swimming skills but I didn't want to have to pay for the pool again. At 8:30 I lost my mucus plug and my brain started running a mile a minute. Could this mean we're getting close? Could I actually go early for a change?I turned to Google and learned that labor could be hours or days away. I feel I should warn you - if you decide to Google mucus plug be prepared to see photographic proof. Why people felt the need to post pictures to Google images is beyond me!  Moving on..... Just in case I ended up being one of the lucky ones who only had hours to wait until labor started I kept up with my clean

Spring is in the air and that means it's time to start thinking about changing over our closets from Winter to Spring. I don't know about you, but that also means it's time to look for a few new pieces to bring new life to what I wear year after year. Today I can make that job a little more fun for you because Shabby Apple is sponsoring a giveaway on my blog! Yeah!!!! I had so much fun looking through their collection of women's dresses and don't even get me started on their adorable line of little girl's dresses ! It's a whole new ballgame for me now that I'm going to have TWO girls to dress. In the end I decided to pick this beauty called Azure Coast to giveaway to one lucky reader because us mom's are always buying things for our kids before ourselves. I just might have to pick up one for myself in time to wear for BabyBear's baptism this summer. It's perfect for nursing moms! Want to win one for yourself? See below , but if you d
