66 and counting...

I'd already put in my 40 hours for the week by 2pm on Wednesday, but in my line of work there is no pay for overtime. The trade off is that I have the luxury of scheduling photoshoots around my the activities my family has going on. Unfortunately in the summer that pretty much means that one job is scheduled around another job and when I'm not working at that job I'm working on things related to my third job. I'm not writing this to complain - I'm writing this because this is what life in BearCountry is like for me at the moment. It has always been my intention to be real with everyone - to share the good with the bad - the highs and the lows....

When I am overtired and overworked it's challenging to stay positive, but every day I can feel the Lord whispering to me that He knows what He's doing, that this too shall pass, that we are blessed in SO many ways.

Tonight I am at the tail end of some pretty big projects. The biggest is a 400 page blog book for a missionary who just returned from Nepal a few weeks ago. Jenn spent 2 years in Kathmandu and surrounding villages sharing the love of Jesus with everyone around her. It has been an honor to put her words and photographs into print. I'll let you know when you can see a sneak peak of the project via a tweet later tonight. What does a 400 page book look like? Here's a preview of less than half the pages - the most I could get on the screen at one time. I'm looking forward to flying through a few shorter books in the weeks to come after this hefty one!

While 161.2 MB of information is uploading to Blurb.com I will be finishing up the proof sites for a senior session and a large family session from a couple of weeks ago. When that deadline is met around midnight, I'll play around with 600 portraits I took earlier during 2 sessions from this past week (a graduate and then a mom with her two sons). Here are a couple that jumped out at me as they were uploading to my computer. (They are straight out of the camera.) I can't wait to see how they look after a run through photoshop!
That should about do it for one night.

  2. Busy is the middle name of all us mama's, but Man you are busy! Hope things settle out a little bit for you.

I was wondering how you like Blurb Book? I am getting ready to put together a book and I am debating between Blurb and My Publisher, but I want a book with a photo cover, not a book jacket. What do you think? How is Blurb to use?

    Thanks! ;)

Shabby Apple Giveaway!

Spring is in the air and that means it's time to start thinking about changing over our closets from Winter to Spring. I don't know about you, but that also means it's time to look for a few new pieces to bring new life to what I wear year after year. Today I can make that job a little more fun for you because Shabby Apple is sponsoring a giveaway on my blog! Yeah!!!! I had so much fun looking through their collection of women's dresses and don't even get me started on their adorable line of little girl's dresses ! It's a whole new ballgame for me now that I'm going to have TWO girls to dress. In the end I decided to pick this beauty called Azure Coast to giveaway to one lucky reader because us mom's are always buying things for our kids before ourselves. I just might have to pick up one for myself in time to wear for BabyBear's baptism this summer. It's perfect for nursing moms! Want to win one for yourself? See below , but if you d...

My Birthday Wish

Today is my 33rd birthday. So far I've celebrated by cleaning the kitchen, vacuuming, and washing clothes. My birthday happened to fall on a Monday - the day we set a few hours aside for me to do some of the cleaning that I just don't have time for during the work week. I love it. I get that immediate sense of accomplishment. I see results. I finished a task. Oh how that makes my heart happy!!!!! In my line of work it can be months before I can check a project off my list. All the while it nags at me and weighing me down like a ton of bricks that projects are waiting for me. Don't get me wrong, I love love love my job, but I also love that instant gratification that comes with checking something off my list. So when Mondays roll around I am happy to pick up my dust cloth or a basket of laundry....even on my birthday. I don't have any great birthday reflections for today....maybe another day. Instead I want to share my birthday wish with you dear readers. What I wan...

New shampoo for a new year!

Happy New Year from BearCountry! We are in the middle of a cold snap where the temps spend more time below zero than above. That means hats and gloves every.single.time we walk out the door for even the shortest trip. Thankfully we’ve been able to avoid catching any of the lice that has been making the rounds in our school district because keeping up with regular laundry is hard enough - let alone washing outerwear too!  Research has shown that tea tree oil repels lice and so we’ve been using a tea tree oil shampoo from Maple Holostics  this winter to give us every advantage against those annoying buggers!  Our family has fine hair so we have to be careful to use hair products that don’t weigh our hair down with build up. It is important to us that products we put on our skin are safe and not full of chemicals or sulfates. That is why when Maple Holostics contacted me about reviewing one of their products I didn’t hesitate to volunteer. I didn’t tell anyone in our family...
