Stain Remover 101

I got a crash course in stain removal Saturday morning after an unnamed member of our family PapaBear dropped a blueberry from his toast onto our couch.

By the time I took this picture, he'd tried to get it out with carpet cleaner (cringe). I think that's where the white residue is from, but at least it didn't bleach our couch.

I searched the internet for options and came up with a few.

1st I poured warm water over the stain and blotted after a minute. The instructions were to blot until there wasn't anything transferring to the paper towel, but there never was anything transferring.

2nd step was to mix warm water with dish soap and let it soak into the stain. Again the blotting didn't look like it was removing anything...

Then I got an email from gbmom2407 who saw my tweet and suggested shaving cream.

Worked like a charm.

Who knew!?

Thanks friend!

My husband thanks you for saving him from the repercussions of wrecking our couch teasing about having to extend the "no eating on the couch rule" to him.

  1. Thanks for sharing - what a great hint!!! We love blueberries, and the hubby loves to eat on the couch with his legs propped up. Recipe for disaster....

  2. That's a new one to me! I'll have to remember that one.

I plan my meals out for 2 weeks, but then something happens to the schedule and it's all out the window! (In case you're having a hard time following my train of thot, I'm reading your twittering!) I had everything planned for my husband being on the road and for my meals w/ my son. Then my dh doesn't have work, but we don't know if/when he'll be called, so...do we eat his meals so they don't go bad? Or save them in case he gets called? All of my planning has gone out the window!

  4. Ooo, this is good to know. I'm going to have to raid my husband's side of the bathroom cabinet in a few minutes.

  5. Shaving cream? Really? You're right! Who knew?!

Sounds a bit odd but if it works, it works.

Thanks for the tip! Thankfully, we have a leather sofa. But that doesn't mean that the girls don't still want to eat on my favorite upholstered chair.

  6. Thanks Carrie. HEY LADIES, not the gel shaving cream... the foam. The cheep stuff works great (I think I paid .87 cents the last time I bought a bottle) in our experience it takes most stains our of all apolstry and carpets.
    Happy day,
    Anna

  7. I love stain removing tips, as I'm always trying to get something out of somewhere! Hydrogen peroxide works on blueberry stains too (as well as cherry juice, grape juice, etc).

"How can I help?"

So many have asked how they can help MckMama and her family during this difficult time and so I've set up a Care Calendar to help coordinate meals for the family. MckMama is coordinating childcare on her end, but you can contact me for the rest. Please leave me a comment in this message and I will contact you with more information on the Care Calendar as soon as I am able. Please be sure I can get in touch with you through your blog and/or an email address. Thank you for covering my dear friend and her family with prayers!

Elsa's Birth Story

The morning of July 1st started out like all the other mornings this summer. The kids let me sleep until 7:30 and then came in to wake me up. We ate breakfast and I started picking up around the house. We had spent the previous day at the town pool and because the heat index was going to be just as high again we made plans to go to our beach. The kids really wanted to practice their swimming skills but I didn't want to have to pay for the pool again. At 8:30 I lost my mucus plug and my brain started running a mile a minute. Could this mean we're getting close? Could I actually go early for a change?I turned to Google and learned that labor could be hours or days away. I feel I should warn you - if you decide to Google mucus plug be prepared to see photographic proof. Why people felt the need to post pictures to Google images is beyond me!  Moving on..... Just in case I ended up being one of the lucky ones who only had hours to wait until labor started I kept up with my clean

Spring is in the air and that means it's time to start thinking about changing over our closets from Winter to Spring. I don't know about you, but that also means it's time to look for a few new pieces to bring new life to what I wear year after year. Today I can make that job a little more fun for you because Shabby Apple is sponsoring a giveaway on my blog! Yeah!!!!
