Ready or not

We played hide and seek tonight - family style. It was the perfect way to spend some quality time together after a long day at the office. We had enough snow this week to rent skis for the first time so I spent most of today helping people find the right size skis, boots, and poles. There was freezing drizzle all afternoon, but people still came out to ski. If only it had turned to snow before 6pm so we could have held the candlelight ski event.

Instead we took turns finding hiding places around the house. The kids have played hide and seek before and I've played with them, but this was the first time all four of us have played. I can't tell you how much fun it was! Now that the kids understand the idea of staying quiet the game is played as it is meant to be. Julia and I hid behind a curtain once and neither PapaBear, nor Sam saw us. Sam and I hid in the bathtub another time and he was the one to whisper, "Shhhh! Here they come!"

I couldn't help but think about the stories PapaBear tells about playing hide and seek (in the dark) as a child with the friends we go camping with each Fall. The big old farm house they played in....the slow glow of the console TV if someone turned it on to reveal hiding places, the keyboard that would get turned on and play the same syncopation over and over again....
I wasn't even there, but it's a story I never tire of hearing.

I'm looking forward to many more games of hide and seek in this big ol' house.

  1. My game of hide n seek is all about Cameron standing in the kitchen, me pretending not to see him and him screaming out "Mommy, Mommy". Definitely priceless and then he runs right toward me for me to pick him up or to give him a hug. Gotta love that good old game!!

  2. My son used to be such a great "hider" when we'd play. Now he's so big he wouldn't be able to pull it off too well. But we love to play hide-n-seek with our lab & Golden. You should see their tails going when they find us!

  3. We're going to have to do that when Daddy is on vacation at the end of the month. Sounds like fun!

"How can I help?"

So many have asked how they can help MckMama and her family during this difficult time and so I've set up a Care Calendar to help coordinate meals for the family. MckMama is coordinating childcare on her end, but you can contact me for the rest. Please leave me a comment in this message and I will contact you with more information on the Care Calendar as soon as I am able. Please be sure I can get in touch with you through your blog and/or an email address. Thank you for covering my dear friend and her family with prayers!

Shabby Apple Giveaway!

Spring is in the air and that means it's time to start thinking about changing over our closets from Winter to Spring. I don't know about you, but that also means it's time to look for a few new pieces to bring new life to what I wear year after year. Today I can make that job a little more fun for you because Shabby Apple is sponsoring a giveaway on my blog! Yeah!!!! I had so much fun looking through their collection of women's dresses and don't even get me started on their adorable line of little girl's dresses ! It's a whole new ballgame for me now that I'm going to have TWO girls to dress. In the end I decided to pick this beauty called Azure Coast to giveaway to one lucky reader because us mom's are always buying things for our kids before ourselves. My Birthday Wish

Today is my 33rd birthday. So far I've celebrated by cleaning the kitchen, vacuuming, and washing clothes. My birthday happened to fall on a Monday - the day we set a few hours aside for me to do some of the cleaning that I just don't have time for during the work week. I love it. I get that immediate sense of accomplishment. I see results. I finished a task. Oh how that makes my heart happy!!!!! In my line of work it can be months before I can check a project off my list. All the while it nags at me and weighing me down like a ton of bricks that projects are waiting for me. Don't get me wrong, I love love love my job, but I also love that instant gratification that comes with checking something off my list. So when Mondays roll around I am happy to pick up my dust cloth or a basket of laundry....even on my birthday. I don't have any great birthday reflections for today....maybe another day. Instead I want to share my birthday wish with you dear readers. What I wan...
