On my mind

Thoughts are swirling in my head tonight....

Tuesdays are very busy days for us and this one didn't start off very well. I couldn't find Sam's x-rays for his dentist appointment after school. I made some calls, talked with some not very helpful people, and finally jumped in the shower 3 minutes before we were suppose to walk out the door. Miraculously we weren't late for either school. I even managed to squeeze in an important phone call.

I can't tell you how much I'm loving Julia's class and the parent education portion, especially. This group of women and welcomed me into their circle, are so encouraging, uplifting, and insightful.

We have to hustle back to pick up Sam by 11. It's stressful, but worth it. He was the snack leader today and so exuberant as he led his class down the ramp. We drove an hour to where Sam's dentist appointment was. We grabbed lunch at Target and then went to our 1 o'clock appointment. By this point we've spent over an hour and a half in the car, it's nap time, and Sam's x-ray's STILL haven't been emailed over. The other clinic put me on hold for 5 minutes. We don't have any extra phone minutes for that kind of thing. We only have 750 minutes for both phones and no land line. They never did pick up.

I put Julia in the Kozy but it didn't help. Sam was VERY nervous about laying down the the chair, but the Dr. was really good. Firm, but kind. He looked in Sam's mouth and told us that he wasn't comfortable treating him. We're going to have to put him under at Children's.

I spent the whole ride home feeling guilty that we didn't brush his teeth well enough/often enough and thinking of the families of children who have cronic issues and have multiple surguries while 'all' that Sam needs is some dental work.

When PapaBear got home I buckled down and got some blog book design work done. I'm on a tight deadline with a project and needed to make significant progress. In three short hours I covered 100 pages. I'd call that progress. PapaBear spent some quality time with the kids while I worked and then we did bedtime together. It was hard not to feel bad that I wasn't available to play with the kids, but tomorrow is a quiet day and I can make up for it then. I won't be distracted by work and can focus on playing with the kids.

It will also help that I booked a wedding last night. (Thanks for the referral Karen!!!) Which reminds me...Karen's son, Henry, turns one today. Here he is at two weeks old...

Other random thoughts/questions floating around my mind include why someone insists on leaving rude comments on MckMama's blog, when will it ever get above freezing around here, how will we handle the crowds at our candlelight ski event this weekend....

I think it comes down to the fact that I'm tired. Overtired.

At least my thoughts have swirled themselves out of my head now and I'll be able to sleep.

Goodnight.

  1. Oh, friend. Sorry about the rough day. I felt exactly the same when Ethan had his first cavity. He'll be in good hands at Childrens!
Hope you have a wonderful rest tonight, and a good day with your beautiful children tomorrow.

  4. Oh girl, I hope you got some calm sleep with all the swurrling. My head does that about our kids behavior and money... I wanted to let you know you are not alone about the teeth issue. Our son D (age 3) just went under at a local hospital for a ton of dental work. We took him for his three year check (that is when our family dentist starts seeing the kids). He was so excited (he is our friend so he was not nervous at all). He was getting his teeth counted!! He opened his mouth, the dentist counted them and then proceeded to tell me that he could not treat him, he would have to go to a pediatric dentist. He showed me in his mouth... the bite area in his back teeth were grey. How did I ever miss that?!? So, we took him the the ped dentist. Very nice man, he checked him out and told me that it was waaaay too much work to be done while he was awake. (they put all children under the age of five into the hospital to put them under). He went in they gave him some vercette(SP?) love the stuff. We had not talked about anything, I just took him (at 6am). He did well because the vercette makes them not remember... so him leaving me was easy. Come to find out he was "days away from abcess and infection" he ended up with four stainless steel crowns, three root canals and four cavities fixed. (oh and the lovely thing about that dentist is they want it all paid for upfront... nice, we had to finance it... but it had to be done, obviously). He had a popsicle in recovery and we went home. He did awesome. I never asked him if he was in pain or anything. The funny thing was after he was feeling better that same afternoon, he came bounding into the living room and said "me saw the dentist and he feeled me better". He knew that he was fixed (must have been able to feel it!!). That was done early november and since then he has put on five pounds. No complications! Hope that puts you a little at ease.
I can't believe people who think it is okay to leave horrible messages on other peoples sites... grrrrr. I guess that is why someone invented the delete button.
    happy day.

"How can I help?"

So many have asked how they can help MckMama and her family during this difficult time and so I've set up a Care Calendar to help coordinate meals for the family. MckMama is coordinating childcare on her end, but you can contact me for the rest. Please leave me a comment in this message and I will contact you with more information on the Care Calendar as soon as I am able. Please be sure I can get in touch with you through your blog and/or an email address. Thank you for covering my dear friend and her family with prayers!

Elsa's Birth Story

The morning of July 1st started out like all the other mornings this summer. The kids let me sleep until 7:30 and then came in to wake me up. We ate breakfast and I started picking up around the house. We had spent the previous day at the town pool and because the heat index was going to be just as high again we made plans to go to our beach. The kids really wanted to practice their swimming skills but I didn't want to have to pay for the pool again. At 8:30 I lost my mucus plug and my brain started running a mile a minute. Could this mean we're getting close? Could I actually go early for a change?I turned to Google and learned that labor could be hours or days away. I feel I should warn you - if you decide to Google mucus plug be prepared to see photographic proof. Why people felt the need to post pictures to Google images is beyond me!  Moving on..... Just in case I ended up being one of the lucky ones who only had hours to wait until labor started I kept up with my clean...

Shabby Apple Giveaway!

Spring is in the air and that means it's time to start thinking about changing over our closets from Winter to Spring. I don't know about you, but that also means it's time to look for a few new pieces to bring new life to what I wear year after year. Today I can make that job a little more fun for you because Shabby Apple is sponsoring a giveaway on my blog! Yeah!!!! I had so much fun looking through their collection of women's dresses and don't even get me started on their adorable line of little girl's dresses ! It's a whole new ballgame for me now that I'm going to have TWO girls to dress. In the end I decided to pick this beauty called Azure Coast to giveaway to one lucky reader because us mom's are always buying things for our kids before ourselves. I just might have to pick up one for myself in time to wear for BabyBear's baptism this summer. It's perfect for nursing moms! Want to win one for yourself? See below , but if you d...
