Update on Conor.... (again)

As of Wednesday morning he seems to be doing much better. No more shaking. I happened to have some skimmings from chicken noodle soup in the refrigerator which made it really easy to give him his three pills. We're going out for a couple hours and I'm a bit nervous about leaving him, but we are out of food, need to get some baking supplies to finish gifts, and am picking up our last batch of Christmas cards and gift tags at Walgreens. Thanks for the prayers and Lori, I had NO idea dogs could get sick like that! We only have colds, so I'm not sure where he picked it up from? The cat perhaps? Who knows. At least he appears to be on the mend.

Thanks for all the prayers on our behalf. It was a scary afternoon for me. At 1pm I let Conor outside and noticed that he had diarrhea. I didn't think much of it until he didn't ask to come in, but laid on the cement instead. It was 14 degrees out. Something was wrong. When I let him inside he wouldn't stop shaking. I sat with him on the living room floor while I ate my lunch. He didn't make any attempt to sniff my beef stew. Something was really, really wrong.

I let him back outside and he didn't even bother going down the steps. He laid down on the porch. I brought him back in and made a couple phone calls. Brian wasn't due home for over an hour so it was up to me to make the decision on what to do. The vet tech said it sounded like he needed to be seen so I quickly woke up Julia, got dressed, and told Sam to get his shoes on.

The vet is only 5 minutes from our house which is really nice. Conor gets worked up when we go somewhere and was shaking violently by the time we got there. They weighed him - 47 pounds. Took his temp - 105 degrees. He had a fever. Normal is 101. The vet did his exam and I paid the extra money to have the blood work done at the clinic. His white count was pretty much non existant which pointed to a virus and explained the fever.

Brian came and got the kids so I could listen to the doctor better and make payment arrangements.

Then we came home and he did this for two hours. He wasn't shaking as bad by this point, but who doesn't like to be covered up when they have fever chills?

He threw up a couple times, but that is par for the course with him. (He throws up at least once a week becuase of his anxiety) I just hope enough of the meds got absorbed first.

It's 11pm now and he's started shaking a bit again. We might not be out of the woods yet.

  5. I can hardly stand reading this because it brings up such bad memories. Our dog - black lab - got very suddenly sick like this, too.

    How is Conor now?

"How can I help?"

So many have asked how they can help MckMama and her family during this difficult time and so I've set up a Care Calendar to help coordinate meals for the family. MckMama is coordinating childcare on her end, but you can contact me for the rest. Please leave me a comment in this message and I will contact you with more information on the Care Calendar as soon as I am able. Please be sure I can get in touch with you through your blog and/or an email address. Thank you for covering my dear friend and her family with prayers!

Elsa's Birth Story

The morning of July 1st started out like all the other mornings this summer. The kids let me sleep until 7:30 and then came in to wake me up. We ate breakfast and I started picking up around the house. We had spent the previous day at the town pool and because the heat index was going to be just as high again we made plans to go to our beach. The kids really wanted to practice their swimming skills but I didn't want to have to pay for the pool again. At 8:30 I lost my mucus plug and my brain started running a mile a minute. Could this mean we're getting close? Could I actually go early for a change?I turned to Google and learned that labor could be hours or days away. I feel I should warn you - if you decide to Google mucus plug be prepared to see photographic proof. Why people felt the need to post pictures to Google images is beyond me!  Moving on..... Just in case I ended up being one of the lucky ones who only had hours to wait until labor started I kept up with my clean
