Sweet Tarts

We experienced a couple of firsts in our house today. The kids have been watching waaaay to many movies as I get back on my feet so today I pulled out my old Candy Land game and we spent some quality time* moving our game pieces all over the board. All three of us got to take the rainbow shortcut but then I was sent back to the gingerbread man. Sam got a kick out of the game (he didn't even mind that I won) and would have played much longer if I didn't have to bow out and finish my chores before we go grocery shopping. Julia thought it was fun to shout out the names of the colors (and knock over our pieces). We don't have the complete game because after almost 30 years and three kids, it's seen better days, but I can see us instigating a game night in the near future. With Christmas around the corner, I'd love to here your suggestions for other games that young children might enjoy. I remember thinking Hi-Ho Cherrio was pretty fun as a little kid. To this day I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE games. Cranium is my favorite. What's yours?

And the other first? Grapefruit. The kids actually FOUGHT over who'd get the next bite. Didn't see that one coming! Too bad they are $1.50 EACH.

* Usually I take pictures of just about everything, but I resisted today and thouroghly enjoyed the uninterupted time with my kids. Granted I had to leave them to play by themselves after 20 minutes, but we have two days of birthday celebrations upon us and I have preparations to make.

  3. Hi ho cherry o is an excellent game. being able to count and move objects is really benificail. We love Craniums caraboo, no one person wins, everyone works together to reveal the jewel. And (for a little bit older kids...and us adults) we love Zooreaka! (it is also cranium). Our children love candyland too but the new game board is much smaller than the original. "shoot the ladders" aka chutes and ladders is fun. Uno attack is our ultimate favorite.
    Happy day.

  4. My kids are 2 & 3 so we're just kind of starting with the games...our 3 year old can follow the rules, but obviously the 2yo cannot. But a favorite of both of them is Sequence for Kids...found it at a garage sale for $.50 and they love it. If we all play together, we just make our own rules up and play until all the animals are covered with chips - but they learn animals that way - and taking turns. Memory is always a good one (just don't take out ALL the pieces when you play with the little one - that keeps it easier). Chutes & Ladders is awesome, too.

Gotta love family game nights - so priceless.

  5. So I am chiming in a bit late... but my kiddos (ages 5 and 4) like to play Cootie, Don't Break the Ice, and Ants in the Pants. Plus those games are super affordable. My 5 year old told me he wants Operation for Christmas this year. We love Uno Attack too!

"How can I help?"

So many have asked how they can help MckMama and her family during this difficult time and so I've set up a Care Calendar to help coordinate meals for the family. MckMama is coordinating childcare on her end, but you can contact me for the rest. Please leave me a comment in this message and I will contact you with more information on the Care Calendar as soon as I am able. Please be sure I can get in touch with you through your blog and/or an email address. Thank you for covering my dear friend and her family with prayers!

Elsa's Birth Story

The morning of July 1st started out like all the other mornings this summer. The kids let me sleep until 7:30 and then came in to wake me up. We ate breakfast and I started picking up around the house. We had spent the previous day at the town pool and because the heat index was going to be just as high again we made plans to go to our beach. The kids really wanted to practice their swimming skills but I didn't want to have to pay for the pool again. At 8:30 I lost my mucus plug and my brain started running a mile a minute. Could this mean we're getting close? Could I actually go early for a change?I turned to Google and learned that labor could be hours or days away. I feel I should warn you - if you decide to Google mucus plug be prepared to see photographic proof. Why people felt the need to post pictures to Google images is beyond me!  Moving on..... Just in case I ended up being one of the lucky ones who only had hours to wait until labor started I kept up with my clean

Spring is in the air and that means it's time to start thinking about changing over our closets from Winter to Spring. I don't know about you, but that also means it's time to look for a few new pieces to bring new life to what I wear year after year. Today I can make that job a little more fun for you because Shabby Apple is sponsoring a giveaway on my blog! Yeah!!!!
