today is a gift

That is why it is called the present.

Recently I've tried to put my feelings of contentment into words during a conversation with Brian. Being able to stay home and raise Sam and Julia is a gift I treasure and one I know I write about often. No matter how often I try to put it into words, it never seems to be enough. Being their mom is the greatest privilege next to being married to my best friend. We have a roof over our heads, a loving family, and more to keep us entertained here at the park than we can do in a summer. I used to want to get out and go somewhere every day, but now I'm content to tidy the house (FINALLY learned to stay on top of the housework most of the time), read, bake, sit on the porch, play in the sand and just BE with my kids. To put it simply our lives are just that - simple. That simplicity leaves lots of room for hugs, snuggles, giggles, and quality time spent as a family. I am grateful for the peace that God has given us after a difficult year. It's hard to believe that it was one year ago that we decided to put our house on the market, that Brian resigned from his job, and my full time daycare closed. We trusted God to work things out and he did that and more.

It was almost two years ago that we welcomed our daughter into this world. I knew to savor every moment as we had decided that she would be our last baby. Somehow 22 months have slipped by and I'm now nursing and cuddling a 34 pound toddler at nap time and bedtime instead of a 8 pound, 14 ounce newborn.

Some of the things that I want to remember about this stage in her development:

When she runs, it's like she's running in place with her knees high and one of her arms flailing.

She insists that I ONLY sing "Hup Baby" (Hush Little Baby) when I'm rocking her. No humming allowed.

She has to have four pacifiers in bed with her at bedtime.

She can get all four in her mouth at once.

The blankets have to covering her and her puppy and hippo.

She's using three word sentences most of the time.

Her screams can be heard in Iowa.

She gives some of the best hugs (Her big brother is a good teacher).

I love this girl to pieces. It's as simple as that.

"How can I help?"

So many have asked how they can help MckMama and her family during this difficult time and so I've set up a Care Calendar to help coordinate meals for the family. MckMama is coordinating childcare on her end, but you can contact me for the rest. Please leave me a comment in this message and I will contact you with more information on the Care Calendar as soon as I am able. Please be sure I can get in touch with you through your blog and/or an email address. Thank you for covering my dear friend and her family with prayers!

Shabby Apple Giveaway!

Spring is in the air and that means it's time to start thinking about changing over our closets from Winter to Spring. I don't know about you, but that also means it's time to look for a few new pieces to bring new life to what I wear year after year. Today I can make that job a little more fun for you because Shabby Apple is sponsoring a giveaway on my blog! Yeah!!!! I had so much fun looking through their collection of women's dresses and don't even get me started on their adorable line of little girl's dresses ! It's a whole new ballgame for me now that I'm going to have TWO girls to dress. In the end I decided to pick this beauty called Azure Coast to giveaway to one lucky reader because us mom's are always buying things for our kids before ourselves. I just might have to pick up one for myself in time to wear for BabyBear's baptism this summer. It's perfect for nursing moms! Want to win one for yourself? See below , but if you d...

My Birthday Wish

Today is my 33rd birthday. So far I've celebrated by cleaning the kitchen, vacuuming, and washing clothes. My birthday happened to fall on a Monday - the day we set a few hours aside for me to do some of the cleaning that I just don't have time for during the work week. I love it. I get that immediate sense of accomplishment. I see results. I finished a task. Oh how that makes my heart happy!!!!! In my line of work it can be months before I can check a project off my list. All the while it nags at me and weighing me down like a ton of bricks that projects are waiting for me. Don't get me wrong, I love love love my job, but I also love that instant gratification that comes with checking something off my list. So when Mondays roll around I am happy to pick up my dust cloth or a basket of laundry....even on my birthday. I don't have any great birthday reflections for today....maybe another day. Instead I want to share my birthday wish with you dear readers. What I wan...
