Today is my 33rd birthday. So far I've celebrated by cleaning the kitchen, vacuuming, and washing clothes. My birthday happened to fall on a Monday - the day we set a few hours aside for me to do some of the cleaning that I just don't have time for during the work week. I love it. I get that immediate sense of accomplishment. I see results. I finished a task. Oh how that makes my heart happy!!!!! In my line of work it can be months before I can check a project off my list. All the while it nags at me and weighing me down like a ton of bricks that projects are waiting for me. Don't get me wrong, I love love love my job, but I also love that instant gratification that comes with checking something off my list. So when Mondays roll around I am happy to pick up my dust cloth or a basket of laundry....even on my birthday. I don't have any great birthday reflections for today....maybe another day. Instead I want to share my birthday wish with you dear readers. What I wan...
Your new blog looks GREAT!!! Welcome:)
ReplyDeleteI'm SO glad I can be the first to comment!
Your header looks great...I can't believe you were able to change the text that much. I looks very nice.
Happy New Year, my friend!
It's all thanks to you Jennifer! The picture in this post, my profile picture, the header... I can't wait to post more of your beautiful pictures from Sunday.
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year to you too!
Hey! We just got home. Your new header size looks GREAT! How did you make the text smoosh down on the photos like that? It looks super! Is it "final" now? Looks good to me!
ReplyDeleteOkay, off to put away my new goodies now (read my new post and you'll both know what I mean and also know what we've been up to since this morning).
Carrie, I agree it looks FANTASTIC! How did you get it to be like that? Mind sharing the secret?
ReplyDeleteI'm happy to share!
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, this was done in photoshop* 5.0 (which I don't have) so Jennifer created it on her computer by clicking on "create" and then picking the layout that I wanted.
Next, she uploaded the pictures I emailed her or she already had on her computer and then emailed me the raw document.
Photoshop stuff has a tendancy to be rather oversized but with some tweaking over the course of a couple days I've found something I love. I always saved a copy of each one I made especially the one where I spot healed over the text.
See Jennifer doesn't have the same fonts as I do in the 4.0 version so I "erased" by using the "spot healing" tool in the editor to give me a blank canvas. Then each word/letter was added separately so I could adjust size and position like I wanted. Jennifer to answer your question - I didn't do anything special other than to write the word up further and then drag it down when it was the right size.
This is where I don't have much in the way of advice because it is soooo trial and error as you already know sizing a header can be. The original header had a really big space for the words I could make smaller by resizing the image, but then my pictures would have been even smaller. So adjusting the canvas size (under Image, then resize) was really the best option. I could adjust the canvas size because my blog has a black background anyway. The trick is to click on the arrows to anchor the picture in a different location before changing the canvas size. I only needed to shorten the height and wah-la I had a more compact header.
I hope this makes some sense. Feel free to pick my brain with any more questions. Jennifer really got the ball rolling with her original layout. She can probably help explain things better than me.
I better watch out...you ladies are gonna be my competition pretty soon!
ReplyDeleteGreat new blog, Carrie!
Love the new header too! And this picture is priceless... absolutely wonderful!
