News flash

You can't walk down the toy aisle at Target without noticing the ever increasing number of recall notices. We are on tight budget so ordering expensive European toys is not an option for us (and probably not for many people) but there is this cute family owned toy store in St. Paul that I enjoy shopping at because I can usually find small, unique, and affordable things that normally I'd have to pay to have shipped to my home. After finishing our Saturday chores by 9am we piled into the van for a trip into the city. The kids were in heaven with two different train tables to choose from. I, on the other hand, was overwhelmed by the choices. What in the world do you get for your second-born who just turned one? While I was carefully looking over every toy I noticed a woman that looked awfully familiar. It turns out she's a WCCO news reporter. She asked if the kids would play at the American made train table for a few minutes so they could get some footage for a piece that's airing tonight at 10 on channel 4 about toy safety. I am so glad I dressed Julia in her new overalls from my bargain hunting at Gymboree yesterday. They played very nicely together and Sam even said excuse me to the camera man who was blocking his way around the table. Julia puttered around the table making truck noises with a little car. Ah! That's my kiddos. :)

On the way home we passed Mickey's diner. We couldn't resist the famous (does anyone know why it's famous, cuz I sure don't?) little establishment and enjoyed a tasty lunch of pancakes and burgers.
Those are Sam and Julia's pancakes cooking on the griddle in the upper right picture. yummy!

I'll try to find a link to the WCCO segment to share tomorrow.

Peapods is nice enough to gift wrap, otherwise I'd share pictures of the cute wooden airplane and helicopter we picked out for the kids. I even picked up a stocking stuffer for the other kid in the house (otherwise known as Brian). shhh....he doesn't know I did that.

  3. I saw your kids (and you) on the "late" 10 o'clock news last night. Pretty cool! We live less than a mile from Peapods...great store isn't it? I get a Mickey's craving about once a year and once I eat there, I'm good for another year or so.

  4. I missed you on the news. If you happen to find the clip you'll have to post it. :)

Cute picture with the burger and the red bow.

I don't know, so many places claim to be famous and I agree, why? They should have a plaque or something up with an explanation.

  5. So now that's 3 generations of Pauly's that have made the news. See if Brian knows what I'm talking about!

There are actually 2 Mickeys. Looks like you were at the one further down on W. 7th. There is one in downtown that has appeared in several movies-Might Ducks, for one.

My Birthday Wish

Today is my 33rd birthday. So far I've celebrated by cleaning the kitchen, vacuuming, and washing clothes. My birthday happened to fall on a Monday - the day we set a few hours aside for me to do some of the cleaning that I just don't have time for during the work week. I love it. I get that immediate sense of accomplishment. I see results. I finished a task. Oh how that makes my heart happy!!!!! In my line of work it can be months before I can check a project off my list. All the while it nags at me and weighing me down like a ton of bricks that projects are waiting for me. Don't get me wrong, I love love love my job, but I also love that instant gratification that comes with checking something off my list. So when Mondays roll around I am happy to pick up my dust cloth or a basket of laundry....even on my birthday. I don't have any great birthday reflections for today....maybe another day. Instead I want to share my birthday wish with you dear readers. What I wan...

New shampoo for a new year!

Happy New Year from BearCountry! We are in the middle of a cold snap where the temps spend more time below zero than above. That means hats and gloves every.single.time we walk out the door for even the shortest trip. Thankfully we’ve been able to avoid catching any of the lice that has been making the rounds in our school district because keeping up with regular laundry is hard enough - let alone washing outerwear too!  Research has shown that tea tree oil repels lice and so we’ve been using a tea tree oil shampoo from Maple Holostics  this winter to give us every advantage against those annoying buggers!  Our family has fine hair so we have to be careful to use hair products that don’t weigh our hair down with build up. It is important to us that products we put on our skin are safe and not full of chemicals or sulfates. That is why when Maple Holostics contacted me about reviewing one of their products I didn’t hesitate to volunteer. I didn’t tell anyone in our family...
