The highs and lows of our weekend

I have edited this post to correct what appears to be a misunderstanding. I should have been more careful in choosing my words, but I wasn't, so I'm sorry that I offended my readers.
As the author of this blog, I have the right sing the praises of my children as much as I want, but I shouldn't have been so harsh on the other contest entrants. That was wrong, but I stick by my Author's Disclaimer on the right hand side - read if you want, or don't read.

First the good news - we made a little over $900 at the garage sale. While it would be nice to spend that on something fun, what it'll go towards is our mortgage payment. Without a paycheck coming in for Brian, this will be a huge burden lifted for at least one month. Having him at home will also mean we can list the house MUCH quicker - as in the next 2 weeks. He's been working so hard on painting, staining, cleaning, and packing. I don't even want to think about how long it would have taken me to do all that stuff during nap times and on the weekends. The low of the garage sale wasn't technically during the garage sale, but happened after we closed down on Saturday. I went to a local resale shop with 4 tubs of clothes and toys where they only bought 4 things. FOUR. I had a hundred items. Not only was I incredibly insulted that they thought my stuff wasn't good enough, but the employees were rude to boot. For $11 they bought a $20 wooden toy, a Discovery Toys crib bumper, 2 articles of clothing, and a $30 activity center. Yes, I know they need to make a profit but come on! $11??????????

Another low point of the weekend was seeing the results of the Evenflo Cute baby contest. I always knew it would be a long shot for Julia to win, but I never thought she'd lose out to a flower child. In the future I plan to stick to smaller contests or at least ones that there's a panel of judges do the work rather than asking friends and family to vote. (A big THANK YOU to all of you who took the time to vote!!)To end this post on a high note I am thrilled to share the news that Julia will be featured in a Kissaluvs Cloth Diaper ad this fall. We knew that part of their photo contest was the chance to be used in their online advertising, but I never dreamed that after the kid's finalist placing that they'd contact us for more pictures and end up using one in a MAGAZINE. The Nov/Dec edition of Mothering Magazine will have a Kissaluvs ad that features my baby girl!!!!

  1. I've read your blog for sometime now. I have always enjoyed it until today. I didn't realize how full of yourself and your children you were. ALL children are cute. NOT just yours. You are a very sore loser. I won't be reading your blog again.

  2. Congrats on making so much moola at your sale and on the Kissaluvs ad!!! And, of course, we all know Julia was robbed in the Evenflo thing:) Really, I never was into popularity contests. But get her in a photo or cute baby contest...watch out! Or, you could just sit back and relish life with your beautiful kids and never enter another contest in your life, if you really wanted. But where's the fun and intrigue in that!?

And, yes, anonymous (I "love" how people who choose to say negative things to the authors of other blogs so often choose not to divulge their real identities) ALL children ARE cute! And it's fine if you think Carrie is "a very sore loser" and "full of herself." She is most certainly neither, but if you want to think that, that's fine! But I question your decision to write that to her. What good does that do? You know, if you can't say something nice, just don't say it. (Sorry, but I also doubt that you really "won't be reading" her blog again, so I am banking on the fact that you will actually read this comment.)

And, Carrie, good for you for editing your post (though I'm not sure it needed it), being sensitive and willing to admit mistakes, for not wanting to offend others, yet in being free to say what you want on YOUR blog. And for leaving a "negative" comment on your blog. You are neither full of yourself nor a sore anything. I cherish you and this situation is just another reason why!!!

  3. The Kissaluvs image in both print and web is great! I really liked that pic of the kiss. I've never even heard of Kissaluvs and if another baby should happen my way I'll have to try them. I'm interested in alternatives to disposable diapers next time around.

Good luck with the house selling. I just got to take mine off the market, at least for the moment, we'll see if hubby can pull off a new job here or not. I certainly do not miss having to make it spotless clean all the time on the off chance someone would want to view it that day.

    Good Luck.

"How can I help?"

So many have asked how they can help MckMama and her family during this difficult time and so I've set up a Care Calendar to help coordinate meals for the family. MckMama is coordinating childcare on her end, but you can contact me for the rest. Please leave me a comment in this message and I will contact you with more information on the Care Calendar as soon as I am able. Please be sure I can get in touch with you through your blog and/or an email address. Thank you for covering my dear friend and her family with prayers!

Elsa's Birth Story

The morning of July 1st started out like all the other mornings this summer. The kids let me sleep until 7:30 and then came in to wake me up. We ate breakfast and I started picking up around the house. We had spent the previous day at the town pool and because the heat index was going to be just as high again we made plans to go to our beach. The kids really wanted to practice their swimming skills but I didn't want to have to pay for the pool again. At 8:30 I lost my mucus plug and my brain started running a mile a minute. Could this mean we're getting close? Could I actually go early for a change?I turned to Google and learned that labor could be hours or days away. I feel I should warn you - if you decide to Google mucus plug be prepared to see photographic proof. Why people felt the need to post pictures to Google images is beyond me!  Moving on..... Just in case I ended up being one of the lucky ones who only had hours to wait until labor started I kept up with my clean

Shabby Apple Giveaway!

Spring is in the air and that means it's time to start thinking about changing over our closets from Winter to Spring. I don't know about you, but that also means it's time to look for a few new pieces to bring new life to what I wear year after year. Today I can make that job a little more fun for you because Shabby Apple is sponsoring a giveaway on my blog! Yeah!!!! I had so much fun looking through their collection of women's dresses and don't even get me started on their adorable line of little girl's dresses ! It's a whole new ballgame for me now that I'm going to have TWO girls to dress. In the end I decided to pick this beauty called Azure Coast to giveaway to one lucky reader because us mom's are always buying things for our kids before ourselves. I just might have to pick up one for myself in time to wear for BabyBear's baptism this summer. It's perfect for nursing moms! Want to win one for yourself? See below , but if you d
