A....B....C......D's

This is how Sam refers to the ABC's and who am I to "correct" him? After all D is the next letter. I try to expose him to letters and numbers every day in hopes that he'll absorb this important knowledge in a fun and interesting way. Today we made letters out of bread dough. Very easy, but I think they taste terrible. Sam seems to like them and that's what's counts.

    P.S. Will you please STOP doing so many delightful, life-long-memory-creating, educational, creative, special activities with your kids for just a FEW days to give the rest of us a chance to catch up on the ideas you gave us LAST week!?!? I mean, seriously. And you run a daycare and have other kids in your house and when I see you your hair is combed and your house is clean and you cook organic food, use no microwave and also find the time to blog? What's next? Teaching Julia how to weave her own socks out of dried blades of grass?

    Okay, kidding. But seriously, Carrie, you are like my mothering icon. I am not really trying to keep up with you. Okay, lying. I am. You are inspirational.

    You're too kind! Believe me - you are an inspiration to me too! You made super porridge for your whole family while tonight we dined on boxed chemically "enhanced" stuffing and chicken. Ok, so the chicken was free range, but the Campbell's Supper Bake I made to go with it is full of bad stuff. One thing at a time though right? I've got some catching up to do of my own.

My Birthday Wish

Today is my 33rd birthday. So far I've celebrated by cleaning the kitchen, vacuuming, and washing clothes. My birthday happened to fall on a Monday - the day we set a few hours aside for me to do some of the cleaning that I just don't have time for during the work week. I love it. I get that immediate sense of accomplishment. I see results. I finished a task. Oh how that makes my heart happy!!!!! In my line of work it can be months before I can check a project off my list. All the while it nags at me and weighing me down like a ton of bricks that projects are waiting for me. Don't get me wrong, I love love love my job, but I also love that instant gratification that comes with checking something off my list. So when Mondays roll around I am happy to pick up my dust cloth or a basket of laundry....even on my birthday. I don't have any great birthday reflections for today....maybe another day. New shampoo for a new year!

Happy New Year from BearCountry! We are in the middle of a cold snap where the temps spend more time below zero than above. That means hats and gloves every.single.time we walk out the door for even the shortest trip. Thankfully we’ve been able to avoid catching any of the lice that has been making the rounds in our school district because keeping up with regular laundry is hard enough - let alone washing outerwear too!  Research has shown that tea tree oil repels lice and so we’ve been using a tea tree oil shampoo from Maple Holostics  this winter to give us every advantage against those annoying buggers!  Our family has fine hair so we have to be careful to use hair products that don’t weigh our hair down with build up.
